Path of Miracles

  • Morristown Presbyterian 57 East Park Place Morristown, New Jersey, 07960 United States (map)

The Bach Choir of Bethlehem, founded in 1898 and recognized as America’s oldest Bach choir, brings its large chorus together with 17 professional soloists for Joby Talbot’s A Path of Miracles. Written in 2005 for the British choir Tenebrae, this hour long a cappella work traces the Camino de Santiago in four movements named for key pilgrimage cities Roncesvalles, Burgos, León, and Santiago. Poet Robert Dickinson interweaves medieval sources and new writing into a multilingual text in Greek, Latin, Spanish, Basque, French, English, and German, while Talbot’s score blends chant, folk influences, and striking vocal textures. The result is a sonic pilgrimage that moves from awe and hardship to radiant arrival.
